What’s in My Bag: A Saturday Afternoon

It’s a cloudy Saturday afternoon, and I’m heading out for the day—first stop, my laser hair removal session. That in itself is an entire blog post (because the journey to smooth skin is real), but for now, just a quick mention. Afterward, I’m keeping it simple by grabbing something to eat, wandering a bit, and letting the day unfold without too much structure. I love when I can move through New York like this: slowly, intentionally, open to wherever the streets might take me.  Of course, I never leave the house without a few essentials.

The Bag: A Thrifted Babe

This bag? A vintage, metallic gray leather dream I found tucked away in a local thrift shop and she’s been with me ever since. The zippers, the worn-in leather, the compact size—she’s got stories, and now, so do I. She holds just enough without being a burden. Perfect for wandering from LES to Yonkers.

The Essentials Inside:

  • A Pair of Nola Earrings – I always keep a pair in my bag, just in case I’m running late and forget to put on earrings before heading out. Nola’s are a staple—timeless, lightweight, and the perfect finishing touch to any look.

  • Eana Business Cards – You never know who you’ll meet, I like to have Eana’s business cards on hand.

  • Santal Perfume Oil – Handmade in Mexico City, this perfume oil is one of my favorite scents. It’s warm, slightly woody, and lingers beautifully throughout the day. A little dab on my wrists and neck, and I’m good to go.

  • Juvia’s Place Lip Liner – A go-to for a quick touch-up. It’s reliable, adds definition, and feels like a small but intentional detail.

  • Eadem Lip Balm – Hydration is key, and this lip balm is a lifesaver. Plus, it’s Black-owned, which makes me love it even more.

  • Hand Sanitizer – Because, well… NYC. A necessity. Non-negotiable.

  • EOS Vanilla Cashmere Hand Cream – Soft life in a tube. Smells like vanilla, feels like cloud butter, and turns a basic hand-moisturizing moment into a mini mood reset.

  • Sunglasses – I know, it’s cloudy but they’re less about the weather and more about how they make me feel calm and tucked away.

  • Phone Charger – If you know me, my phone is ALWAYS dead. I’m working on it though.

  • Sony ZV-E10 & SD Reader – My first real camera. As I practice and get more comfortable behind the lens, I like to bring it everywhere.  It is compact but powerful, and the SD reader makes it easy to transfer shots on the go

  • AirPods: These are always within reach. I’m most likely listening to R&B or neo-soul -think Faith Evans, D’Angelo, or Cleo Sol but today, I’m feeling nostalgic. Big Pun is in rotation, reminding me of the balance only NYC hip-hop can deliver.

  • Cash – I always keep some cash on me in case I run into a street vendor selling fresh produce, or something unexpected that I can’t pass up.

New York can feel like so much all at once, but having these small comforts with me helps create ease within the movement. Wherever the day leads me, I feel ready and rooted in the little essentials that make the city feel just a bit softer. What’s in your bag?
